MY RUNNING EXPERIENCES in 2018

My name is Ramesh Tamang and I am one of the members of Run With Roshni  Foundation. I completed my Higher Secondary Education  from one of the eminent institution of Kalimpong , Scottish University of Mission Institute (SUMI). Now  I am pursuing my degree  in Bachelor  of Physical Education from Laxmi Bai National Institute of Physical education in Guwahati.

I’m thankful to Run with Roshni Foundation (RWRF) for giving me several opportunities to participate in different marathons all across India since 2012. Running has become a part of my life and I’m always devoted to it. Through running I’ve discovered many hidden treasures within me. It motivates me a lot in building my self-esteem and it helps me to be a disciplined person. Moreover, in my day to day life it helps me a lot in my holistic development. It has taught me a lesson to create the conducive environment in any situation.

By participating in the marathons of different cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Guwahati, Shillog and many other cities,  I got  to meet the peoples from various walks of life. India is well known for its diverse culture and its ethnicity. By meeting people from different cities, states and culture, I got to learn many new things about them and about my own country India. It plays a vital role in boosting up my confidence within me for everything.

In the year 2018, I got support to take part in Tata Mumbai Marathon, North-East 1st international half Marathon, TCS Bengaluru World 10k, Rotary Sohra Marathon and All India University Cross Country(AIUCC)2018.

Tata Mumbai Marathon was on 20th Jan, 2018. We reached Mumbai on 18th Jan, 2018, the next day i.e on 19th Jan, 2018, we went to the expo to collect our bib no. My brother Binod Tamang, my friend Ranjeet Rai and other twenty eight runners represented our team RWRF in TMM 2018. This year ten senior runners from Darjeeling and Kalimpong had joined us for TMM, who participated in Dream Run of 6km. I ran Half marathon in TMM. On 21st Jan, 2018, four of us, myself, Roshni Didi, Hemant Rai and Sevika Rai were invited to an International Board School in Mumbai to share our experiences. I shared my experiences of running different marathons. Sevika and Hemant shared their experiences of walking 11 hours from their village in Rimbik to Kalimpong to give their documents for the registration of TMM 2018 due to the strike of 105 days in Darjeeling and Kalimpong in the year 2017. The students of that school were very interactive than any other schools, which I have visited till date.  They asked us lots of questions. We got to learn many news things by visiting that school. We got to know that the students of that school have limited use of gadgets and social Medias.

Same day in the evening of 21st Jan, 2018, we attended a workshop on “Love Heals” conducted by Dr. Deval Doshi and Mr. Sunil Shah. In the session, we got to learn about our  vision and goals. We also got to learn a bit of psychology, meditation and about how we can train ourselves mentally and physically to achieve our goals. I am very grateful to Dr. Deval Doshi and Mr. Sunil Shah for organising such an amazing workshop only for us.

My second event of the year was North East 1st international half marathon in Guwahati on 6th April 2018. I stood on 12th position with the timing of 1:18:50hrs. It was a smooth game for me because I was in Guwahati only. In this event I represented my organisation RWRF and my college LNIPE. The registration for this event was done by my college.

On 25th May, 2018, we reached Banglore after three days’ train journey from Kalimpong to participate in  TCS Bengaluru World 10k , which was on 27th May 2018. Mr Simanta Baruah provided us accommodation in his own residence. He helped us to get our bib no as well. I had gone to participate in TCS Bengaluru World 10k with my brother Binod and my teammate Ranjeet. According to the age category Binod stood 2nd, I stood 4th and Ranjeet stood in 7th position. We had a good time in Bangalore. A big thank you to Mr. Simanta for his guidance and support.

Rotary Sohra Marathon was on 24th Aug 2018 in Shillong, Meghalaya. Thirteen runners from RWRF came from Kalimpong and Darjeeling for Rotary Sohra Marathon. I joined them from Guwahati. We had a good time and we learned a lot from a very challenging marathon in Shillong.

In our Institute LNIPE, Guwahati, selection was done on the basis of the timing certificate for the All India University Cross Country (AIUCC) game. On 5th Sept, 2018, the final trial was in Gwalior and I got selected to represent my university. Selected runners were taken for 30 days of training camp. All India University Cross Country(AIUCC) game was in Gulbara University of  Karnataka. Though  I did not win the race, I did my best.  I am learning a lot by participating in such a prestigious events like AIUCC. It was for the third time, I had participated in AIUCC.

Above all, education plays an important role in the success of an individual. I would like to sum up my blog by sharing my life’s goal: I want to pursue M.P.ed ie Masters in Physical Education after completing my degree of B.P.ed (Bachelors in Physical Education). Since, my aim is to do research in Endurance Training and inspire coming generation to become efficient long distance runner. The vision of Roshni Didi is to see Gorkha Runners winning Olympic Marathon and make India proud, as well as to spread the message “We are Gorkhas and Proud to be Indian”.  I am always ready to do whatever I can do to support Roshni Didi to fulfil her vision. Lastly, I owe my sincere thank you to all the supporters of my organisation RWRF, family and my coaches for their love and support. I seek your blessing and guidance further in my future days to come.
Ramesh Tamang.
